Would my computer be able to run this video card?

These are my components:

Manufacturer:

Gateway

Processor:

AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+ (2 CPUs), ~2.4GHz

Memory:

1918MB RAM

Hard Drive:

309 GB

Video Card:

NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE

Operating System:

Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6001) Service Pack 1 (6001.vistasp1_gdr.080425-1930)

---And this is the Card----

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8990407&st=NVIDIA+GeForce+6150SE&lp=2&type=product&cp=1&id=1218007083381#tabbed-customerreviews|||Your PC's motherboard is using the Nvidia chipset that has Geforce 6150SE integrated on the chipset that is why others would say it is on the motherboard. Integrated graphics are quite weak for gaming and they just share memory from system RAM.

The 8400GS dedicated graphics card should work on your PC. It is a significant upgrade over your 6150SE. However, the 8400GS is still just an entry level or budget graphics card. More serious gaming starts with the ~$85 cards like the ATI HD 4670 or the Geforce 9600GT.|||yes ur computer will run with that video card. Btw NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE is a mother board

Phenom II CPU and a medium video card or Athlon II CPU and a high-end video card?

I've been figuring out what processor and video card to get for my new Gaming Rig with my budget limit.

My budget is only limited to either one of the 2 choices:

a.) - Athlon II x4 640 @ 3.0GHZ

- Nvidia GTX 460

b.) - Phenom II x4 965 Black Edition @ 3.4GHZ

- Nvidia GTS 450

Other Parts/components that i have chosen are:

- 2GB DDR3 1333 Memory

- 1TB Hard Drive SATA2

- 19 inch LED LCD Monitor

- CPU fan upgraded to Platinum Fin Extreme Cooling Fan

- 700w PSU

- Foxconn A76GMV 760G AMD ( AM3/DDR3 ) Motherboard

please recommend other things for my new first build computer...

i will try medium overclocking for the first time

and will play games like:

Crysis 2

GTA IV

NFS Shift

Just Cause 2

thank you very much...

sorry for my poor english...|||A. An Athlon X4 is good good enough for gaming. Games these days need more GPU power than CPU. GTX 460 is much more powerful than a 450.

Go with 4GB of RAM.

I think a 700 watt PSU would be overkill.|||The choice with a better graphics card will run faster with games. Games are more dependent on the video card. You want as good as a video card you can get without the CPU bottlenecking the system.

I agree with the 700w psu being overkill. a decent 500w is plenty and will be better than a crappy 700w. Also think about getting 4GB of RAM. 2GB is too little. It would be a shame to build your system only to have the RAM slow it down when it's the cheapest component.

Help with motherboard/video card upgrade?

Im looking to upgrade to PCI-E so i can acquire a better video card then what i have to run current games. I was looking at this combo http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3977378&csid=ITD&body=MAIN#detailspecs I was wondering if my cpu/hdd/ram etc. will fit in the mb. Im not sure how to post the stats of my components so if someone can direct me better please let me know how and what info i need to post.|||The 680i is a very nice board. I would not suggest the 8500gt graphics card though. Its out of date and slow. Technology moves very fast so i would suggest an 8800gt card from nvidia. Its the best price to performnace ratio out today. It would be helpful to post your pc stats because you will need to know the wattage of your psu and if it has the right connections. You will also need to know the socket type of you cpu and the type of ram you have.

Heres what i would get:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500007

Hope this helps!

I can give you more info if i get the specs of your pc.|||Right click My Computer on your desktop and select properties. This will tell you your proc and how much ram. My guess is that if you have a new-ish intel proc you're using DDR2 ram...

While the 680i mobo is an older model, it's still solid. the Video card is also so-so.|||You may get reply to the question at, http://downloadnext.blogspot.com/search/label/PC%20Queries%20Solutions|||Your stuff should fit in. But, I would upgarde your mobo to a 750i. And your video card to an 8800GT.

Video card, power source, and pc case help?

I have a dell xps 210 with a 275 watt power supply and a radeon spphire hd 4350 video card. The xps 210 is a slim line model, meaning I need low profile parts to fit in it. I was wondering, could I just buy a regular sized case, switch the components over, and just buy a full sized video card and power source? If so where can I find a case and what video card and power source would you recommend? If not, then what is a good low profile video card and power source that will work for me?|||efff that. sounds like more trouble then it's worth. grab a 5670 low pro and call it a day.|||My Dell Motherboards are propietory and don't fit in regular ATX cases. Searching the motherboard appears to be non standard ATX

Please read details! How do I make my computer "act like" it has a video card?

It does not have one. Since it is an old laptop, all that I can really upgrade are the battery and hard drive. ( In the way of hardware ) I have been reading about the DirectX SDK (Software Developement Kit), and downloaded it. I cannot tell which component has the "reference rasterizer", apparently the part I need. If you know of any better software, please tell me. I would also need to know how to use whatever it is I install. I just did google/yahoo searches to get started. Now I'm stuck. Links to sites would be good. Thanks!|||have you updated the graphic drivers, on board graphics can only handle so much

http://driverguide.com/

DriverGuide.com (printer drivers, cdrom drivers, modem drivers, sound drivers, mouse drivers, monitor drivers, etc.) - DriverGuide.com|||It may not have a graphics "board" but it does have the graphic chips on the motherboard. Seems you need to find the latest drivers for your laptop model. Then if you go to Windows Update, it should offer the latest version of DirectX for your version of Windows.|||Virtual - hard drive, cdrom, cd-rw, dvd drives, network card are possible but I believe you should need an actual display card present physically. Since you are talking about a laptop it will have a display chipset.

The word Raster is related to way in which images are displayed on screen with pixel illumination. Raster scan is way in which these pixels are read, transmitted etc.

I believe you are trying to emulate a hardware acceleration using an old display chipset and may be you are getting some error. Identify the error experienced, check and download latest display drivers on manufacturer website and DirectX version available supported by your Operating system.

Video Card Compatibility?

I am planning to get a new video card for my Compaq Presario C771us laptop. Currently, my laptop has Intel GMA X3100. This is the first time I try to replace any computer component by myself so I want to know what kind of compatibility issues I should be aware of. I have read through some of the websites and learned about something like PCI-express and something about the power supply of the PCI. Where should I look for these information for my laptop? And do you guys have any recommendations on which video card I should get? (I am planning to get a new card because I am afraid that I will not be able to play the upcoming resident evil 5 on my laptop). Any answers are appreciated. Thanks in advance!|||You cannot upgrade the video card in a laptop without changing the whole logic board (which is usually not worth the cost).|||you cant put in/replace a laptop video card.

this is why desktops pwn all|||you should google your computer for the specs.

i know fersure that any intel graphics card is pretty weak.

i would suggest searching for a better graphics card in your price range and making sure its within the power supply range. if not you might have to replace the power supply too. ATI is cheaper and has unbelievable quality, but Nvidia has a long record of strong cards.

does NVIDIA GeForce2 Integrated GPU support component video output?

I'm trying to hook my computer up to my TV so I can watch movies from online. Does this graphics card support component output or do I have to go VGA to RCA?|||well sice you only gave spec as chip set rather then model of video card

the only answer i can give is blue

27? or maybe wallooskipjas

How to install a Video card cooler/Heatsink?

I want to buy thishttp://cgi.ebay.com.au/PC-VGA-Video-Graphics-Card-Heatsinks-Cooler-Cooling-Fan_W0QQitemZ300380920693QQcmdZViewItemQQptZAU_Components?hash=item45f0191b75#ht_3063wt_939

But i don't know how to install it..

Do i need to remove the fan that i got with the gpu and replace it with the one i bought off ebay?

Thanks for any help|||Yes you will need to check a few things like whether the fan will fit your gpu and power consumption.

I can't get to the url you put for the part but I can tell you that this is a more advanced operation as far as computer hardware goes and you will want to know what you are doing or you could potentially kill your (expensive?) graphics card. This is considered to be one of the more difficult modifications you can do to your GPU if you don't know what you are doing.

If you are more capable and technically inclined then do your research and make sure you know exactly what you are doing and it's not all that hard. if you have the right part and a way to attach the fan/heatsink then thats all you really need.|||yes, and here's how.

remove your gpu from your computer

remove your current fan and heat sink (the metal fin part stuck to your card, under the fan)

unplug old fan from card

clean gpu with alcohol and a coffee filter

apply a tiny dot of thermal paste to the gpu

attach new heatsink/fan, and plug in

connect to motherboard, and run it at full bore for a few hours to get the thermal paste to set.

If my video card and power supply problem?

my video card requires 12v@18A....but can i buy this power supply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371010#spec

or... +3.3V@24A,+5V@24A,+12V1@19A,+12V2@19A,

+12V3@19A,-12V@0.8A,+5VSB@3.0A

now i checked if it can handle all of my other components and it can...and that is the only problem that i run into. so is it safe to go with this one or should i go with one that has 12V@18A.... o can u explain me the difference of 12V@18A and 12V@19A.. plz thanks|||+12V1@19A will work fine, it just allows more power to be utilized.

Can someone recommend a good video card for gaming?

i feel like i should be able to max out any game out there, but i still get choppy in some areas of Everquest 2. i intentionally built a beast so i could handle mmorpg with no problems, but i still have to dummy-down my settings to avoid lag.....here are my components:

Ultra LSP550 550-Watt Power Supply

AMD Phenom 9500 Processor HD9500WCGDBOX - 2.20GHz, 4 x 512KB Cache, 1800MHz (3600 MT/s) FSB, Agena, Quad-Core, Retail, Socket AM2+, Processor with Fan

Corsair Dual Channel TWINX 4096MB PC6400 DDR2 800MHz Memory (4 x 2048MB) 8 gigs total

Asus M2N-SLI Motherboard - NVIDIA nForce 560 SLI, Socket AM2/AM2+, ATX, Audio, PCI Express, Gigabit LAN, S/PDIF, USB 2.0, Firewire, Serial ATA, RAID

Sparkle GeForce 9600 GT Video Card - 1024MB DDR3, PCI Express 2.0, (2) Dual Link DVI, HDTV, VGA Support

someone help me tweak this thing, or do i need a better video card?|||With a 550-watt power supply, I'd say a GTS 250 or Radeon 4850, which cost between $100-$120 (The 4850 is priced lower, a really good deal) If your psu was higher than 600W, then I'd recommend moving up to the GTX 260 or Radeon 4870, which run $150ish. With one of those you could max out EQ2, or even Vanguard (the true successor to Everquest, heheh)

Here's how your 9600GT stacks up to other entry-level and midrange gaming cards:

http://hothardware.com/Articles/ATI-Rade…

Best video cards for the money, as of Sept 09:|||your components already include a videocard. I highly suggest either sticking to that one or purchasing a different barebone kit.

I would recommend the GTS250 as well. highly respectable and offers decent gaming experience.|||i'd suggest going with either a gts 250 or a radeon 4870. both are really reasonably priced right now and can handle any MMO.

Will my pc support this video card?

hi i would like to upgrade my pc video card. I would like to buy this card:

my current card is this:

http://gpuz.techpowerup.com/11/04/08/3zy.png

my pc is a windows 7 ultimate 32bit 2gb RAM, CPU 3.00Ghz, intel pentium 4 (pc works really smooth) custom built pc.

my aim is to watch HD videos from my PC. Will my pc support it?|||Your linked to picture indicates you are using an Intel 945G based motherboard. The basic specs of this chipset do indicate that you should have a PCI-Express x16 slot on it. It will be a first generation slot but it will work fine with the video card you have linked to. Open your case to see if your board does indeed have one.

I found the following on UK eBay which is a couple of pounds more but an even better card. BTW neither of these will require a power plug.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Powercolor-HD-5450…

Here is the basic specs of your motherboard:

http://www.intel.com/Products/Desktop/Ch…

Good luck.|||Based on the age of your computer, it probably doesn't support PCI Express video cards (like the one you linked). Your computer probably supports AGP video cards, which you might still be able to find, but it's difficult to tell for sure since your computer currently has an integrated video card.|||I wouldn't know why not. Note that I am not an expert.

Video card or windows 7 issue?

System requirements lab said I have 3.7 gb of video ram, and it said you have gtx 285 and it didn't say you have two gtx 285 and in my nvidia control panel it said this...

under components it said gtx 285 twice.

then in details it said...

total available graphics... 3835 mb

dedicated video memory... 1024 mb

shared system memory... 2811 mb

here are my system specs

Ikonok 1200w psu

Asus p6t deluxe v2 m.b.

core i7 920

2 x evga gtx 285 @ 1gig a piece in sli

6 gigs corsair ddr3 tri ch. ram

windows 7 (build 7100)

Shouldn't my dedicated video mem. in my nvidia panel read 2048 mb?

And sometimes when starting c.o.d. 5 it tells me my computer has changed do you want to change your settings? And when I play trackmania on line it scans my system and tells me it cant detect my video and may not be able to play. but it plays fine.

I have the latest drivers. I have tried one card at a time and everything I can think of. Something is wrong and I don't know what.

Got any idea's?|||This is kind of obvious and simple but did you try detecting your hardware again using windows? when i first built my PC i was getting improper reads on everything. my quad core wasnt a quad core, my gtx 275 sli was only a single 275, i had 2 gb of ram showing out of 8. Then i just hit detect new hardware and refreshed it all, swept the drivers using driver sweeper. resintalled them and updated bios and it started working like a dream (Vista though)

What Video Card is best for my computer?

Hi,

I have a Compaq that is about one year old, and I am wanting to upgrade it so I can play more demanding MMOs such as Lord of the Rings Online. I have a Compaq Presario SR5123WM and here is a link of the system specifications.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/gener…

I was wondering what would be the best value Video Card that I could purchase that would be compatible with my computer and monitor. My budget is anywhere from $150-$250, but I'm willing to go higher if it is that much of a better value.

I have a general idea of what kind of card to get, but I would rather not purchase any card until I've heard advice from people who know a lot more than I do in this department. Any help would be deeply appreciated in regards to finding a better video card (or any other component of my PC that you see might be lacking). I bought this PC with the idea of upgrading it later so I hope it's fairly flexible.

Thanks!|||I would get a nice EVGA Geforce 8600 GT with 512 MB of RAM for around 109.99 USD, you will need atleast a 400w PSU, which would go well. I would get a Thermaltake TR2 PSU since they are one of the cheaper ones but good(I own a TR2 and got it for $45), or an Antec PSU. Since your case is probably a mATX all ATX PSU's will fit in it.

e-Geforce 8600 GT 512 MB

Anymore questions, contact me and I will gladly help you.

Have a nice day

Ken|||Hi the major problem that your going to have upgrading the video card will be that compaq only has betweena 250-300 watt power supply. you will have to replace the power supply with at least a 500 watt.. I like antec power supplies.

I tend to like pny video cards they just have treated me well...

9600GT 512MB PCIe

Part No. VCG96512GXPB

$179.99

this is a decent card it's direct x 10.0 and open gl 2.1

the upgrade runs really is alot of faster

9800GTX 512MB PCIe 2.0

Part No. VCG98GTXXPB

$349.99

so there are some really descent ones. the power supply will needed to be upgrade

How do I find out the true memory size of my video graphics card by ATI?

Just to make things clear, I did not specifically order this laptop (Dell E1505) so I didn't specify each component. The invoice says ATI Radeon Mobility x1300 128mb but everything on the actual computer says x1400 but I can't figure out if it's 256 or 128mb because I have conflicting sources on the computer itself, one from the bios (128) and other things ilke properties say 256|||go to properties from" my computer icon" > hardware>device manager>display adapters>double click on your graphic card information and u will c all the information there.just play a little with it.there is another way 2.go to properties of my computer again and > settings> advanced> and u will find your graphic card there.when u click on it,it will give u all information.

have a great day. ;P|||im not well versed in bios workings but.. arent YOU supposed to tell the bios your specs, and not the other way around?

where it says 128 in the bios, that's an option yes? as in you can set it to 256?|||go to start -> run -> then type dxdiag, hit enter then click on the display or system tab in the direct x diagnostic tool|||leave the one on the bios alone

the driver is not loaded then

I need help finding the BEST video card for my new PC.?

I am building from the ground up the ultimate PC with everything and anything that may be needed or called upon because I am definitely a computer freak and need the best processing power and RAM available to compute and do really what i need. With Price set aside i've decided on just about everything from the brand to the model of component and i've made no stops or second bests when it comes to this new PC i'm building. Liquid Cooling system, Maxed Out RAM, Intel i7 Extreme Edition processor. the Works basically, but one of the few things that i've been stuck against in finding is the best Video Card. I haven't yet decided upon the Mother Board i want but of course it needs to be compatible with my video card and what not but after searching a bit among video cards i've found a few options and to be completely honest I Don't know Much when it comes to video cards and that's where I need help... I have already planned for the monitor to be replaced with a 40in LG 2X HDMI HDTV 1080p wide screen television and what not. Therefore i want to get the absolute most out of the TV i already have and want the ultimate in video processing. Not only for multimedia, video editting, game play, and online video gaming, but also for movies, media and what not. I've found a few video cards and need help picking among them my first option is an XFX FeForce 8800 GTX video card with a mear 768 MB of memory and i planned on getting an extra large case to accomidate it along with a second one of the same type. Or an EVGA GeForce GTX 295 CO-OP Hydro Copper video Card housing 1792 MB of memory. This card while having more memory does take up less space and requires a smaller power supply but according to reviews the XFX model seems to be the favorite and for about a hundred or so dollars more brand new. I definitly need help finding the best Video Card availbe and pretending that price is not an object could someone please shed some light on the pros and cons of different video cards and what would pull out as the Best for not only Gaming but everyday use? Whether it be the XFX GeForce 8800GTX or the EVGA GeForce GTX 295. If you know of any other video card that is better please let me know and please provide a link to where i can purchase it and also about it's stats and what-not. Any other information about what you would reccommend for "The Dream Computer" would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for everything.|||Please dont put all info. in one go. It only deters ppl. from answering questions. I hav first hand experience on that.

So u want a maxed out gaming rig i suppose?

I suggest intel skulltrail motherboard. It supports 2 intel core 2 extremes ie 8 cores.

Further it can accomodate ati radeon and nvidia graphics cards which you can run side by side.

And i think it also supports sli and crossfire.

If you want your own computer config. I suggest you go by gtx 295. It would definitely be better than 8800 gtx.

Only if i had such a pc......|||Quad performs better than i7 when you only use 1 GPU, but performs better than quad when the PC have multi GPU, so if you can buy 2 GTX 295 to quad sli, then go ahead and buy it, but make sure the mobo support quad sli and have sufficient power supply(1000 watt)|||Go to Newegg.com for all your computer building needs. Best price, customer service, etc.

Look up their video card and you will see consumer reviews that will tell you all the ins and outs of mother boards, video cards and TVs.

As for the LG TV for your monitor, you want 2ms response time. LG has the new 240hz LCDs that have that. They are sweet and perfect for your applications.|||Get the ATI 4870X2 and if moneys not an issue get two of them. they kill them two you mentioned above. 8800gtx is kinda old now and this outperforms the GTX 295 take a look at what the people say|||Tri-SLI with three Geforce 285s.

not two 295s, cause the quad SLI there always stumbles over the number of separate cards, which the driver is not really great at handling...

so use three 285s, preferably with the EVGA X58 or ASUS P6T7 WS SUPERCOMPUTER or ASUS P6T6 WS Revolution.

PCI video card won't work on my new motherboard.?

I'm building my first computer. I'm almost finished, but the last component I need is a video card. Because I am so close to being done and am getting excited I asked my A+ teacher if I could borrow one of the spare PCI video cards lying around so I could install Ubuntu. He loaned me a 128 bit ATI card and I went home and plugged in into the only standard PCI slot on my motherboard and connected the card to my monitor, but nothing displays not even the BIOS. There were no beep codes and I tested the card at school before hand and tested the monitor with another machine, both worked. The motherboard LED light is lit and the hard drive spins up and the optical drive opens and closes. The board is properly mounted and is not in contact with any metal on the case. The manual only explains using PCI-e cards. I'd hate to have to send the board back if it's functional.

Basically is it possible that my new ASUS M5 99x Evo doesn't support standard PCI video cards, but rather only PCI-E?

I have tested all power and cable connections several times so please don't comment with things like is the P1 connector plugged in?

Thanks!|||In some computers I have used, in order to get a PCI card to work you have to go into the BIOS and change the option of booting from PCI-E/AGP to PCI, you may also require to disable onboard video if you have it.|||that board does not have a stander pci slot they r pci express slot hopefully you did not short out the board pluse a pci card would not fit into a pci e slot|||The motherboard is compatible with PCI as listed here:

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3Plus/M5A99X_EVO/#specifications

The product manual is also on the site listed above under the download section. It does show the installation of a PCI card into the appropriate slot.

I would do a few things:

1. Make sure you have it in the correct slot (Baby Blue). This may help: http://www.asus.com/websites/global/products/y6VrsVkIQucXalZe/product_overview.jpg

2. Unplug everything and clear the CMOS using the jumper on the motherboard.

Plug everything back in and see where you are.

Should a video card fan run all the time?

had some issues with pc locking up while gaming, now pc will not boot up, black screen.

I noticed after several tries of plugging & unplugging different components, (video card, drives, ram) that the fan on my Nvidia Geforce 6600 is not running. Now keep in mind the pc is powered but will not boot up (black screen). Should the fan on the video card run on power up?|||yes is should you probably need to clean it. un screws it from the card and put it in some alcohol and get it spinning freely again. if it spinning freely and just not spinning then it may be dead and will cause your GPU to overheat.. find a replacment fan for it before it cause damage to your GPU if it already hasnt|||thats ok its supposed to do that (so that it is quiet)

the fan is only there to keep the nvidia 6600 cool

if youre using it over 50%

otherwise it wont generate any heat so there is no reason for it to be on

the problem with your computer is that your pci express (agp maybe) slot is fried so you need a new motherboard unless you want to stop playing games and just use the onboard

How can I tell what kind of graphics/video card I have?

Alright, I just reformatted my computer and now none of my video games work anymore. I asked around and someone suggested an outdated graphics/video card, so I tried to check what graphics card I have. I have tried the following:

1. Start>Run>dxdiag>Display Tab [Results: It doesn't detect a video card]

2. Start>Rus>msinfo32>Components>Display [Results: It doesn't detect a video card]

3. Installed GPU-Z to detect [Results: "Error: Unknown Architecture"]

[I'm running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2]

HELP.|||Try going to Start>Control Panel>System>Hardware (tab)>Device Manager>Display Adapters|||go to Nvidia website http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.asp… and choose option 2 graphics drivers or if you have an ATI card got to http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html and select your video card? what model is your pc??|||go into control panel click on systems. go into windows experience thingy . on the left u should see advanced tools. click that.and then click view advanced system details in system information. then go into components. then graphics and it will tell u|||side click on your desktop and go to properties and then go to setting and it show be there under the little tv

CPU / Video Card bottleneck?

I just bought a new computer and I need to put in a halfway decent video card. Just enough to play COD4, Fallout 3 on reasonable settings and WoW on High settings. It's not an expensive computer so I don't want to spend a lot of money on the card only to have it bottlenecked by other components. I'm thinking something along the lines of a Radeon HD 4670 or a GeForce 220 w/ 512 megs of DDR3 for ~$60-$80.

The machine it's going into is an off the shelf Lenovo w/:

Pentium Dual Core E5300,

4GB DDR3 8500

Windows 7 64bit

22" 1920x1080 LCD w/ HDMI

320GB, SATA 3.0GB, 7200RPM

I guess my question is are those cards in line w/ the rest of the machine and is there anything I may not have considered that I should be mindful of?|||You should be fine. The only problem I see is your monitor. Its resolution is too high if you want to play those games on decent settings. You'll be fine as long as you play on a lower resolution.|||Dude you should be fine, I use a 4670 with quad core on 300 w psu, get the ddr3 1gb 4670 version for like 85 bucks. My video card is heating up and failing?

I just bought a new video card about a month ago and it has been running okay but not great. I had 2 x512 sticks of ram. 2 days ago I went out and bought 2X 2Gis's sticks. It runs fine for about 20 min but then my video card heats up so much it just fails. The screen looks like the first nintendo if you kicked it or something. If i only put 1X2gig stick in it runs for like 2 hours before the same thing happens. All components are compatible with my motherboard. Andy ideas or suggestions for what I should do?????

Motherboard: Intel DG965WH

VideoCard: GeForce 9800 GT 1GB

Memory: PNY PC2-6400

Power Supply: 550W|||hi bosco

this seems like the new memory may be the cause of your geforce 9800gt,s problems and since they are all interconnected via the northbridge then you may need to do some jittery pokery in the bios and look for a way to fix this problem

the first factor i would look at in this situation is the power supply however 550watt is more than enough for a 9800gt,but whats your +12v rails...you need a combined total of 24A or more,so you should be looking at 14A or more on dual +12v rails or 30A or more on a single +12v rail...anything less than these may be your problem..insufficent power/amps to the 9800gt will severely hamper the card and while some will overheat, some others may throttle back the core and memory clock speeds to allow for the insufficent power

and with 1gb memory modules obviously requiring more power than512mb modules this may have tipped the power usage over the top...try this...( only temporary )...replace the 1gb modules with the previous 512mb modules..and run some games, and lets see if the geforce 9800gt fails...if not then theres your answer

solution...upgrade your power supply..however disabling some motherboard functions in the bios such as parralell port ,serial port and floppy drive will free up some important system resources, and this can help,i allways do this since why have these enabled when they are never used

next check your current memory( 1gb modules ) with intels website ( http://www.intel.com/support/motherboard… ) and see if theres any issues

overheating is a common problem however what makes this unlikely is you were not having any problems previous to fitting the 1gb modules, but since you state the cards not been running well since you bought it then you should be looking at either

1) replacing the stock vga cooler for a better vga cooler

or

2) adding additional case cooling to specificly assist the graphic cards cooling

obviously we would want to go with option 2 since this wont affect your cards warranty, and this would involve adding something like the Akasa System air extractor( http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Home/Produc… )...this fits into a spare pci slot under your graphic card and will draw air ( in or out ) of the case..however drawing air out is the better option

replacing the vga stock cooler is a better option however this will void your warranty so you wont be able to claim on the warranty if anything serious happens to the card...which leads me on to :

why not contact the manufactuer and explain the situation, and in most case they will look at your card ( under warranty ) and if theres a problem with the actual gpu ( graphics processing unit ) they will simply replace the card under warranty....

give these a go..and let me know if you need further assistance

good luck bosco !|||who made your geforce 9800gt has alot of them have the stock rubbish fan, you might have to replace this or try and improve the cooling in your computer, what kind of temps does it get up to before it crashs?

Help Selecting A Video Card?

I need help selecting a video card for a desktop I will be building. I know there are a lot of aspects when it comes to selecting video cards but i felt it would be easier if I explained what I would be using it for and build my way backwards for selecting components for the desktop. The desktop will be displayed off my 46' Sony LED Side light TV. I plan on using the desktop for playing videos to the TV programing and minimal gaming. So I don't want to overkill it and get a really expensive graphics card and I don't want under do it by getting a worthless video card. On the other hand, without breaking the budget, you can get quite a nice video card capable of playing some serious graphic games AND your HD video for ~$100 right now. Have I just broken the video card? Please answer, I'm terribly worried.?

I needed a new video card for my computer, and my father brought me one the other day. When he first showed it to me, he didn't even let me touch it, saying that it's very delicate and could be very easily broken.

Unfortunately, a few minutes ago I was searching for something among a bunch of papers and stuff on a desk, and I didn't notice that this new video card was there... It fell on the ground. At a first sight it looked okay, but I'm extremely worried that the shock of the impact has damaged it, even though it fell on a soft carpet and not from a very tall place.

Can a mere fall really damage a hardware component beyond repair?|||If it landed on soft carpet and it doesn't look damaged it's probably fine. I've smashed up computer parts far worse and they've still worked. So long as no pieces came off the board you'll be okay.

More than anything what damages components isn't impact but ESD (electrostatic discharge). I wouldn't worry too much about that either, just keep the card in the bag it came with until you're ready to install it.|||well of course its possible it could have been damaged but the fan didn't break off and its sounds like the cosmetic condition is fine.Computer hardware is pretty sturdy so it sounds fine but the only way to find out is to install and power on of course.Trust me video cards can take a beating ha ha I drop a freaking harddrive and it was fine did a HD Tune scan %100 and this is from a 5FT free fall on concrete.

"Remember your always right"|||Unless any bits have fallen off, it will be fine. The greater danger to modern electronics is from static electricity. Keep the card in its special protective bag until you are ready to install it; and leave your computer plugged into the wall but switched off at the power socket while doing the installation. Keep touching the metalwork of the computer while doing the job, in order to discharge any static charge on your body.|||Well.. i'm sorry to disappoint you.. but your father card is fine.. If it didn't pop anything off and fell on carpeting, it should be just fine. Look for cracks on the backside of it. Otherwise good to go. Feel free to say nothing about what happened;)|||Put it back under the papers, claim ignorance, pretend you did not do it. He'll go to use it and IF it doesn't work he may just assume it's faulty and return it.|||If it fell on a soft carpet your most likely safe. The only way the video card can get damaged by falling is by physically broken pieces, you will most likely be able to see any damage from the outside if there is any.|||It should be fine since the carpet can absorb the damaging shock|||Unlikely as there are not many moving parts on them.

Is there anywhere where I could sell my old video card?

I have an HIS IceQ Radeon HD 4670 512MB that I want to sell for $70, so I can get some reimbursement buy a newer card (5770). I have tried eBay, but it appears no one is looking to buy this card. It is in "like new" condition, and I have only used it for less than a year. I still have the original packaging. Are there any computer outlet stores that buy components like this?|||You have difficulty selling that card because most people are aware that they can buy something similar and brand new at a lower price.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

You can only sell your card once people see the price as a really good deal for a used graphics card.

Acer Aspire T180 maximum video card upgrades?

I am thinking about buying an EVGA GeForce 9400 GT Video Card but i don't know if i have the requirements for this card, If anyone knows if i do or don't please tell me the highest upgrade i can go for my system without having to spend more than 50 dollars on extra components.|||The site below says it has a PCIe x16 slot, but the PSU is very weak @ 250 watts, I advise you to either buy a new PSU (350 watt) and a 9600GT, or you could go with a 9500GT.

But you don't want to spend more than 50 bucks, so my guess is you're stuck with the 9400GT. For a 9500GT you need 69 dollars.|||I just recently bought a 9400 GT. Been nothing but a living hell for me since the fan has been a huge issue (Although it might be a factory defect).

Your PSU is a bit week but I would suggest you get a Antec 500W Earthwatts. Great power supply for only 80$ and it's reall efficient.

If your willing to pay a bit more, get the 9600 GT. It's a worthwhile upgrade from the 9400 if you have the money.|||If you can get a nVidia GeForce 9400GT 512MB for under $50 it is a good deal. The next one below that is the nVidia 8400GS - 512MB that sells under $50 & is also a good card upgrade.

Which video card should I get?

I am in the market for a new computer. I figured out every component except for the graphic card. By the way, is there a difference between graphic card and video card?

I was thinking of getting the 256MB nVidia Geforce 7300LE, but I want many second opinions.

I want to be able to use two monitors which will both have a resolution of at least 1280x1024. I often use Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign all at once. There is a possibility that a software like 3D Studio Max or Autocad will be open along with the three I already mentioned.

So, is the 256MB nVidia Geforce 7300LE right for me? If not, which card is better for my requirements?|||1. Graphics card and video card are the same thing. Back in the day (before they used video cards for games) they referred to the component that controlled the display on your system at the video card. Now that graphics developing and games are popular, the name video card has nearly been replaced by graphics card. Although many companies still use the term "video card" till this day.

2. The Geforce 7300LE is a good card. Since it's the Geforce 7 series you'll get great performance out of it. However, depending on your budget, you may want to go with the 6800GT on the low end (because the 7300 isn't that much of a difference) or the 7800 on the high end (Amazing performance boost from the 7300). If your not concerned about a budget, for all the graphics developing and photoshoping you might want to consider an Nvidia Quadro card. For your type of work they are 10000 times better than a gaming graphics card (Geforce series). But if you want to do both and don't need a card to perform ubberly like the Quadro, then go with the Geforce. Hope your going SLI, cause it's way better than AGP. Below are some links to great deals on NVidia cards:|||theyre both the same thing- if uve got the money, the best card to get thats out there in the market is definitely the ATI Radeon X9100|||graphic card and video card the same , i really a gree with niktom_teen87 ATI Radeon X9100 , really its great , and sir about ur asking about 3D MAX , and autocad , no it wont work all togther , and glad 2 advice u that u sould have at least 1GB of ram

Will buying a new Motherboard, Processor and Video card invalidate my copy of Windows Vista OEM?

I have read that too many new components is regarded as a new computer and will not allow me to use my OEM copy of Windows Vista. however I have only read rumors about this and have not seen it confirmed anywhere, Thanks.|||heres the real answer. as was with windows XP, it gets mad when you replace the processor. however, if it gives you a problem when you try to install it, just explain to microsoft what you did, and they will issue a new serial for you.|||No

If I blew out my on-board video, will I still be able to install a video card?

I have reason to believe I blew out my on-board video in my Intel D101GGC desktop board. Will I still be able to install a PCI video card so I can continue to run my current computer until I have all the components for my new build? I ask because If I to install drivers for it I will not be able to do so... because I cannot see.

I plan on buying a cheap one just to run it for three more weeks.

I'm pretty sure installing a video card will override the on-board video automatically. Will this work? Or will the inability to install drivers for it get in the way?|||If you are sure that your computer still works except the onboard video then adding a graphics card will get it to work. Your computer will work on vga mode with drivers from the os so you can install the supplied drivers later.|||Yes.|||I built my computer and it did NOT recognize my graphics card until I did install the driver. It is a risk and unless I was going to build a computer (easily the best way to go for an affordable customized pc) and intended to use the card in the computer I built down the road, otherwise you definitely run the risk of wasting your money on the graphics card.

What type of video/graphics card do i need?

Hi, I have a channel on youtube and render times for HD in sony vegas are doin my head in, so i pulled some money and my dads computer from work, and im looking to upgrade the components. So far i have:

DVD Drive ect...

do i need a good graphics card or video card or what??

I really dont want to spend too much, and i will ONLY use this pc for rendering!

so any suggestions will be much appreciated! Thanks|||The video card has very little to do with render times. Don't tell me about CUDA. CUDA produces garbage quality encodes. You need a faster CPU, not a video card. Grab a Phenom II x6.

Computer too old for new Video Card?

I am about to purchase a Gigabyte GTX 460 Super Overclock edition Video card. The specs are:

1GB GDDR5, 256-bit, 815MHz Core, 1630MHz Shader and 1000MHz memory clock.

Since I am getting a new video card from my old ATI 4670 512mb GDDR3, I was wondering, since I am a gamer, if my ram, cpu or other computer components are still "ok" or at least "decent" when playing video games and doing other things.

Current System Specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 @ 2.13GHz

3076MB DDR2 Ram

ATI Radeon 4670 512MB GDDR3 - to - Gigabyte GTX 460 Super Overclock

Abit IP43 Motherboard

550W Thermaltake Gaming PSU

Vista Home Premium 32-bit

320GB HD

I was wondering, particuralry with the Cpu, if it needs changing, ONLY IF IT IS Necessary, I AM ON TIGHT BUDGET.

Thanks|||Your system specs look pretty good. Some newer games like a higher frequency processor than 2.13ghz but I think it's mostly when you have a single core processor. The GTX 460 will give you a big performance boost in games. Your power supply is big enough to handle the 460 also. I think you are goo to go later if you think you need to upgrade the processor you can do it then since the processor will will be the potential bottle neck in the system.

Good luck

Video Card Suggestions?

I have an ASUS CM5570, It meets and exceeds all system requirements for most the games I want to play except for the video card. I am no longer as savy on picking out components. If anyone knows of a card that will run games such as dawn of war 2 and borderlands and possibly newer games that will definitely work in my system hopefully without having to replace the power supply. If I have to replace it then so be it but hopefully not. Any input would be much appreciated.|||I recommend the ATI HD 57** series, they can run newer games commendably fine.

The ATI HD 48** series can fit to your needs as well.|||i dont know what your budget is but if u are on one ive been running an xfx hd 5770 radeon on mine and it works like a dream, their budget freindly support dirrecx 11 eye finnity if your in to all that. plus their so budget friendly at 160 dollars u could by 2 an run them on crossfire witch is what i did ,no need to buy does hefty cards unless u have the dineros, havig said that the xfx5750 are even cheaper(in prise that is )and will do the job 4 those games you mention . and also remember NEWER DOES NOT MEAN FASTER! hope this helps

Why is my video card overheating so much?!?

This is ******* ridiculous, my ati radeon 4850 hd is overheating like crazy. It's at like 86-88 degrees celsius idle and when i play games like mass effect, bf 2142, etc. the temperature on my video shoots up to like 100-112 degrees celsius. I know that if a video card runs too hot the computer will off itself which is exactly what happens to me. I have a 120mm fan in the back, an antec vcool card right next to the damn video card, and a 80 mm fan in the front panel taking in air. The 120mm blows it out... So what the hell is going on? It's really getting on my ******* nerves. I apologize for the vulgar language but. my god, why would they sell a computer not meant to handle its own components?! Any advice would be much appreciated.|||Are you positive that your temperature readings are Celsius? I have never seen a card reach 234 degrees Fahrenheit. However, there could be quite a few things causing your problem. I would recommend removing your card from your case completely and thoroughly removing any dust. Be careful and be sure you are grounded before doing this. Otherwise, ATI has wonderful customer service that is more than qualified to walk you through your problem.

Good Luck!|||Hunter lang never said that you said it reached 234° F. he was just making a guess about the maximum temperature. Before bitching about how he didn't read your question and making a complete fool of yourself you should have read his answer more carefully.

Upgrade my RAM and video card ?

I have a HP Pavilion DV7 2110sa. It has 4GB Ram and a 512 ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 video card. I would like to upgrade to 8GB Ram and upgrade my video card as well so that I can run the latest games on best graphics. Does anyone know which components I should buy?

Video card upgrading?

I just bought the Age of Conan game and love it. It just seems my video card maybe even sound card is out of date (even though it runs smooth on EQ2). I have an nvidia 7800GTX now. 512MB mem, Its a pci express, 256 bit , ect ect. Heres a link from nvidia http://www.nvidia.com/page/geforce_7800.…

So I'm looking at the 8800 or maybe just go all the way up to a 9800.. But how do I know if its going to fit in my motherboard or not given the specs with the 7800? Any advice on the Sound blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer model soundcard? How do I know what soundcard will fit? I need to be extra careful with these parts I've accidentally bought the wrong kind of memory on ebay before and was out $50 and since these two components are a lot more expensive I really want to be sure.|||Get a 8800gts 512mb version, thats what i have for age of conan and with max settings it will run between 30 and 40 fps.

It will work on your computer because it uses same slot as the card you have now. Might want to check how big your power supply is, you need atleast 450 watt total power supply to run one or almost any new card out there. You can find out how bug yours is by opening up your computer and it should say it somewhere on the out side of the power supply.

If you think that your power supply is too small just go by a new one you can get a thermaltake 500 watt for $40 and it is a decent brand that's reliable.|||If the video card is PCIe, it should fit in your motherboard, as long as your case is at least a mid size tower. For the Sound Card, it won't improve performance, but it will improve audio quality, if you have an empty PCI slot, it should work.|||Hii, i just wanted to say how old is your computer if its a few years old it will run the new graphix cards, and also that if your graphics card is 512MB Video ram thats plenty to get it running, but as this card is a 2 year old card it may not be compatible with these new games, if i were you i would, look at the 8800GT 512MB its very good and isnt expensive as the 9800GTX, which costs around $500, i'de even go for the 8800GT 1GB, which is excelent,

Hope i helped and about the sound, it should work, i dont know y?|||well if ur current video card is pcie, then just make sure that the new card ur thinking about getting is also pcie, there r different types of video cards, there is pci, pcie and agp, as long as u get the pcie, u should have no problem with it not fitting, as for the sound card, it wont improve game quality, it will just help the game sound out a little bit.....i hope this helps good luck

What video card should I buy for a gaming computer?

I'm currently in the process of picking out parts that I will be needing to build myself a gaming computer and I'm stuck when it comes to choosing a video/graphics card. The motherboard I've picked and that is compatible with all the other components I've found is:

ASUS M4A88T-V EVO/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

Found at: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

So I see as far as the PCI slots go, with that particular motherboard I'm looking to pick a video card that connects with PCI Express 2.0 x16.

Any suggestions on a very nice video card I should buy to ensure games will run very smoothly even on high settings?

PS: the video card also says "support ATI CrossFireX Technology" does that mean anything?|||If you want to go TOP END then get an ATI 6990 or you can go crossfire with two 5770's or 5870's. The 6990 will be a very good choice tho.

Have fun|||That motherboard you have there are able to handle two Radeon HD(because it have 2 PCI-Express 2.0x16 slot, single card only used one) video card which callled crossfireX. crossfire is the combination of power of two graphic card together to increase its perfomance on gaming or any other visual application. As far as i know a good graphic for its price and less power consumption is mostly Radeon HD card, and also some NVIDIA card like gtx 560 Ti(which is a little bit expensive 249.00$),but if you go with radeon card i can always recommend this card

Radeon HD 5870(279.00$)>6870(199.00$)>5850(139.00$…

but ill go with gtx 560 on gaming

Hi would this video card be ok for my computer? ?

My computer : P4 CPU 2.80 GHz , 4 gigs of ram, but really only 3327 mb of ram actually used. Windows Vista Home basic.

I dont really want to upgrade my computer yet, cause all i use it for is to play World of Warcraft. and Currently i have a Nvidia Geforce 6800 256mb (ddr1) i believe, but some reason i have to turn all my settings on LOW. and still only get about 10-20 FPS Mostly in the lower numbers. I saw this video card right here and everybody says its the best agp card. Would this video card be able to run settings atleast (MEDIUM) ?

Can a new video card and power supply make the internet slow?

I have a computer purchased in Jan 09 from Dell. I just purchased and installed a 650 watt True Power Trio from Antec and the GeForce GTX 260 from Nvidia.

After installing the components my internet speed is now incredibly slow. Every thing else works fine. The internet is still very fast on my lap top and on another computer in the house.

Any ideas on how to fix this or do you think i damaged my computer in the install?|||The video card and power supply have nothing to do with it

Using HD from Video card?

OK, so about a month ago I got my new video card so I can play Crysis when it comes out. My card is an XFX GeForce 8600 GTS XXX OC edition. Other brands of this card come with a little component block that hooks up to the s-video output to hook it up to an HDTV. Well the XFX one I got only comes with an s-video cable....I can use this to hook it up to my HDTV, but I want better resolution. Do I need to buy a DVI to HDMI cable, or a component block to go from the s-video output, or ??? I just want to have HDTV from my video card......so im asking what I need? Just in case you need to know, this is my TV

http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-LNS2352W-2…

it is HD ready and is 720p and 1080i capable....

Do i need something like this

http://www.ramelectronics.net/html/DVI-h…

or this?

or...?

Best answer gets 10 Points......Thanks!!!|||All you need is a dvi to hdmi adapter like what you linked to.

What component of a video card communicates with the monitor while displaying an image on the screen?

i think it is the chipset but im not sure??|||The chipset is basically what chip the video card is using to do its processing. The entire purpose of the video card is to do all of that.... I'm not sure what your question is|||Yes....its the ..... sick I Forgot...|||A typical video card would have an I/O unit a memory and a processor (together called the chipset) the I/O unit is reponsible for the communication with the monitor through the I/O port/pins.

What Motherboard and Video Card Should I Get? Is This A Good PC For Video Editing?

I'm looking for a motherboard and video card that work together. Here is what i will be using with it:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 Processor

Evo Labs 3393 Case

Storm 900 Watt Power Supply

6gb Heat Spreader RAM.

Also would this be a good set-up for video editing? I will be using Adobe After Effects CS5, Adobe Premier CS5, 3DS MAX, boujou 5.0 and Sony Vegas Pro 10.0.

And what other components would i need to build this PC.

Thanks alot|||The processor and RAM amount are good for video editing. But what's the RAM speed? I'd recommend a GeForce GT240 for a good general-purpose card for movie editing. You don't need a high-end gaming card for that.

I'd go with a better quality power supply brand like Antec, OCZ, Silverstone, Corsair or Seasonic.

Once we know your RAM details, we can suggest motherboards which support it.

** Update **

OK you've got 6gb of 1600Mhz DDR3 RAM. That's a strange mismatch. First of all, DDR3 is pretty unusual for Core 2 Quads (most motherboards designed for your processor use DDR2 instead). And having 3 sticks is something that's normal for some Core i5 and Core i7 systems, but not a Core 2 Quad. You'll probably need to run either 4gb or 8gb.

Here's a motherboard that would work, although the memory speed would need to be set manually.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as…

Are these parts that were purchased separately, or maybe pulled from other computers? If you haven't bought the processor yet, I'd recommend not doing so. Get a Core i5 processor instead which can accept all of your existing RAM and is faster. Which parts do you already have?|||For the Adobe CS5 video programs, you should definitely take a close look at the complete minimum system requirements (including tested and recommended graphics cards), and then make sure you exceed them by a healthy margin..

How can I fix my cmputers video card?

Alright I went to format my q6600 quad core vista machine and because of dust the fan on my Video card got jammed and fell off. It is an invidia Gforce. Now that it is burned up the CPU light comes on but no fans are running any more. What I wanted to know is if I have an additional graphics card that is integrated can I enable it some how and if so how. When I plug a monitor into it, it does not work. Also do you think because of the video card burning out that it damaged other components on my PC.

Thanks|||you could go and buy a cheap one or if your motherboard is Matx there will be intergrated grachics controller, a new cheap graphics card is around 40$ from Umart

Can you use components from a dead motherboard in a new system ie: video card, ram?

A couple of weeks ago there was a power surge while I was re-installing vista and I didn't do the smart thing and un-plug my pc.After one surge I turned the pc back on and resumed re-installing the os,then 10 minutes later there was another surge and this time when I tried to turn on the pc,nothing happened.Dead MB...so I was wondering if any or all components attached to the MB are also fried or if they can be used in my new system I am building.Thanks..and I have learned my lesson about power surges...|||Yes you can. But better test them one at a time. As for the power supply, test it first before you even attempt to connect it to the motherboard. Connect a PC case fan to one of the 4pin molex connector. Plug the power supply to AC outlet. On the 20 or 24 pin ATX connector, short the pin w/ the green wire to any adjacent pin with the black wire. The test fan and the fan of the power supply should spin if power supply is still ok.|||Well if other components use high quality components like good transistors than there is a good chance they didn't fry. In that case you could get a motherboard that fits your old components and try salvaging parts that didn't burn. If your new mobo will accept the same RAM, GPU Card, CPU, and hard drives there is a chance you can salvage some of your old ones.

PSU wont start with video card plugged?

One week ago my computer shut down automatically and it wouldn't start up anymore. I called a friend to bring up his PSU to make a test and it started up. So I presumed that my PSU(520W) was broken and sent it for a replacement one as it was in warranty period. I picked up my brand new PSU today and attached it to all the components, 3 fans HDD video card motherboard. I tried starting it up and... nothing again.

I had no problems with my old one for 6 months so it should be able to power up all my components. I tried all the possible permutations, unplugging fans, hdd, video card, and it would only start without my video card. My video card has 2 PCI slots for power because it can't draw enough power from my motherboard.

Does anyone have a clue why my computer wont startup with the video card plugged in?|||It is tough to tell,.

When your friend brought his over, what brand and size PSU did he use and what Brand PSU are you using currently?

Are you plugging in the two extra power connections from the PSU to the video card?|||if you upgraded your video card from stock it may be your motherboard not being able to handle the power that the card is drawing. i would see to upgrading your motherboard.|||The power supply could have killed something on its way out

Is my Video Card or my PSU failing?

I just recently put about $400 dollars into upgrading to a new system but am having sudden power/video card problems.

My build is:

Rosewill RX850 850w SLI power supply

4 GB of Patriot RAM

2 DVD-RW optical drives (one of which is recognized but will not actually read cds, another problem that I have)

EVGA GeForce 9800GT video card

Soundblaster Audigy 2

ECS NForce 9M-A ATX Mobo

AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ (3.1ghz-dual core)

Not sure what kind of case because it was given to me, has alot of fancy lights and fans

all parts were purchased through newegg

About a month ago I built this same computer with a RAIDMAX 730w PSU and it was working great. I was playing Fallout 3, Crysis, etc flawlessly on the highest settings. I then built a cpu out of old (but good) parts for a friend and moved my 730w to my friends build, replacing it with the 850w that I have now. I continued playing the games on my system with the new 850w PSU in, because it only makes sense that, if a 730w can power the above config, an 850w should have no prob; the system worked well for several weeks. After Christmas, I was playing the new Rise of the Argonauts game (which has demanding system requirements) when my system crashed during play. I unplugged and began troubleshooting because the system would not reboot. I finally narrowed it down to one thing: the system will not power on when the 6-pin PCI-E power cable from the PSU is plugged into the port on the video card. If this is unplugged, the system powers on (no POST beeps, but it has never beeped on startup anyways) and all components are on, including the video card fan. Also, the video card is beeping (signifying insufficient power because the 6-pin is unplugged) which leads me to believe the slot as well as mobo are fine because all components seem to be operational. Once again, the only time the system will not power on is when the 6-pin is connected to the port on the video card. I have tried different 6-pins from the PSU, but same issue. I'm not familiar with bad PSU rails but could that be the culprit? The PSU I'm using boasts 4 separate rails. On the other hand, can the actually port on the graphics card be faulty, causing the system to crash? I'm a pretty advanced computer user and have repaired and built dozens of computers, but have never had this issue. This is the first problem I have had with my build and would very much appreciate any advice before I RMA both the PSU and graphics card and try to start over.

Thanks in advance|||Your PSU, while having enough total power output for the 9800 GT does not have enough Amps on a 12 volt rail to power the card. The 9800 GT requires 26 to 28 Amps at the 12 Volt rail to power the card*. The Rosewill RX850 only has 20A at each of it's 12V rails. The Raidmax 730 watt you gave away had 24A at its 12V rail. I have encountered the problem you describe when a 12V rail gets overloaded. This is a common issue with multiple 12 rail PSUs.

You could try using a Molex to 6-pin PCI-e adapter. They usually require 2 Molex connectors be combined to make 1 6-pin PCI-e connector. That may spread the load across a couple rails providing a workaround to see if the card works. If that fixes things, maybe a new PSU with appropriate specs is in order.

Good luck!|||it sounds like the PS is defective and the 6-pin is having a problem you shoudl talk to whoever you got it from.

also take it to a fry;s or somethign and have them run a power test on it to see if the PS is good or if any of the wires or stuff is bad on it.|||I'd say it's the power supply. return the power supply and get a new one. if problems persist then it's probably your video card. but seeing as how everything was fine until after you changed the PSU, that leads me to believe the PSU was the problem|||Ask to borrow the 730w back to see if works in your rig. You can also test the voltage at the 6 pin connector. The yellow should be as close to 12.00v as possible. If I remember right, mine is 12.08v|||I hate to be a follower , but , the other two said it as will I . I think it's your ps,and should take it back , either for a new one or a replacement one ,,.. Sometimes you'll get one thats defective in the lot ..

How can I make the image on my HDTV from my computer's video card out clearer and more sharp?

I hooked up my computer to my HDTV from the signal out, and the screen is a bit blurry and not very sharp. I tried using both the S-Video out as well as component, but the picture was about the same for both. I can lower the resolution and make things look bigger, but I won't be able to use that solution for newer games that run at 800x600 minimum. The only time it looks remotely good is at 640x480, and that just won't cut it. How can I make it look like it does on my 19" monitor on the HD itself? I have an 8500gt Geforce card that is supposedly "HD Ready".|||Check to see if your video card has a "dvi" connector on it. This will be a white connector with lots of tiny holes in it. If it does, you can purchase a dvi to hdmi cable for cheap at monoprice.com. With that setup you should be able to match your tv's resolution and get a clear image.

Also note that some HDTVs have special "modes" for PC connectivity or even a DVI port (that requires a normal dvi to dvi monitor cable). Check your TV's user manual to see if a PC or dot-by-dot mode is available.|||You need to open up the settings for the video card and look for TV out and set it up there. It's off by default until you turn it on.

What is a good motherboard/processor/video card for gaming?

I am custom building my own computer for the first time. I would like to get suggestions/feedback for motherboards, processors, and video cards. I'm planning to build a gaming desktop with an Intel i5 750 processor and an nVidia GeForce GTX 460. I'm stuck deciding on a motherboard though. If anyone can link their motherboard of choice from the Newegg.com or Tigerdirect.com websites, I would appreciate it. I'd also like to get some feedback on the CPU and GPU mentioned. As for the video card, is there a big difference between the 768MB vs the 1 GB version? I don't want to spend more than $200 per component. Thanks for the help.|||GTX 460 is a good card to opt for now. The difference in memory wont make much of a difference unless you play at really large resolutions.

As for the motherboard, I'm thinking of this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/NewProduct…

I use the non-USB 3.0 version of it and IMO, its a pretty solid mobo|||the only difference between 768mb and 1gb is the memory obviously nothing more.its the same processor same clock ,same chip-set.since most games now asking for 512mb they ll now ask for 1gb and later even more( even 1TB ain't enough for these developers:-| ).so better go for 1GB.but the more clock frequency the more powerful your card than just having high memory.so focus first on core clock then memory.i restrict myself to GPU.|||for mother board i suggest asus maximus III gene its a very good baord specially for overclocking

the rest its ur choice!

visit this sites and ask them

tomshardware.com

overclock.net|||I think your asking the right question but you've left out some more specific questions. Do you want an SLI or non SLI system? If this is a gaming rig, then I would assume you want an SLI enabled motherboard for adding more video card in future. There are also triple SLI slot and this is for the NVIDIA card that supports triple configuration. However, triple is kinda over kill at this point. If you do some reading on SLI, after third card, you don't get the full benefit of adding additional card. In fact, third card will probably give your about 50% more performance boost. That's really sucks since your spending a price on full card and only geting 50% performace.

As for processor, getting i5 means your will have to get DDR3 rams. For the money/performance, I'd really like to recommend socket 755 Q9450 with water kit and DDR2 - 8gb setup. Two reason this is best over i5 is that i5 doesn't give you much in terms of future upgrade since i7 will most likely be released with another set of pins so your not gonna get the most upgrade capability on i5. Socket 755 is still around and even though intel will most likely never release another quad core processor on socket 755 other than the existing die but your still getting a lot of processing power than i5 at the half the cost for gaming rig.

As for DDR2 vs. DDR3, DDR3 will give you up to 12gb or 16gb depending on your motherboard, but about 99.99% of games don't even use up to 2gb of ram. DDR2 will get you up to 8gb and with 32bit OS, you can only utilize 3.5gb of that. So getting 8gb with 64bit OS will be the best choice.

As for the video card, that is purely depend on the monitor size and number of monitors, if your like me only runs it in 24 inch 1920x1200 then 768MB video card will run it 30fps on that resolution. The higher ram cards can run 2650x1600 mode for 30+ inch monitor. Also, do you plan on running this on multiple monitor? If so then you'll have to get the double ram size like 1.5gb to 2gb video cards for multiple monitor support.

In the past, I've had some success with barebone kit from tiger direct that sold the CPU/motherboard/ram in combo.|||Both AMD and intel make good cpu's. AMD cpu's are often a bit cheaper but intel cpu's in this class may use less power and also generate less heat. For instance i just built a system using an intel i7 K 875 cpu, that's a tiny bit more expensive then the AMD phenom II 9050T that performs about the same, but the intel cpu only uses 95 watt max, and the amd cpu 125 watt max. Not strange because the intel prcocessor has less cores then the amd cpu, in this case. so when looking for cpu, look at price performance and powerconsumption. Here is a handy comparison table:

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpu…

I think ur cpu choice is good, buy a cheap, low featured/gadget, but high quality (preferably all solid capasitators, or in any case a board presented as an overclocking or military style board) socket 1156 mainboard with with a intel p55 chipset. Make sure though the board u buy has a bios that supports ur cpu. I had to look very good to find a board that supported the i7 k 875 cpu because it's a relatively new variant, and shops mostly sell boards that have old bioses. Luckily i found a good, newly released board from MSI (model p55a-g55) whose first release bios supports all intel socket 1156 cpu's, so i knew for sure it would support my cpu. Be warned though. The i5 may give a bit less problems but i'd check. Having said that it may be that an unsupported cpu wil work normally, but i wasn't prepared to take the risk.

Im not the overclocking type, im more of a keep it cool then it lasts longer guy. That's why i like to buy overclockable stuff and then not overclock it ;-). As a cooler i chose the mother of all coolers: the scythe mugen 2 rev B. It's huge, but not very expensive. The bigger the coolingblok the more effective the coolingfan wil be, the more coolness u'll get for ur money. When u buy this monster be carefull it fits though, but it should, just, fit in a casing with a normal width. Here is an assembly vid:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QSGr-7NqU…

The person in this vid doesn't follow the exact assembly guidelines but it'll give u an idea on how it's done, or could be done. I did the assembly with the cooler on top. In any case make sure u mount it in the right orientation, or u can unscrew it again, like i had to do when placing it on my cpu ;-)

For memory just take 4 GB of a descent brand of ram, unless u plan to go 64bit, then take 6 or 8Gb, and always make sure it's compatible with ur mainboard. A lot of ram seems to be optimized for p55 and socket 1156 so that should be no problem.

If u can get an nvidia gtx 460 for around $200 then go for it. In a bit higher priceclass the radeon 8570 might be a good choice, but for that price the 460 is the best in it's class. Here is a review:

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/07/1…

(it reviews both variants simultaniously)

Take also a look at this performance table to see where this card is standing:

http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/high_e…

Last but not least get a good 80plus effectiveness certified powersupply a bit stronger then recommended for the card.

Tip: before buying components read reviews, visit the manufacturer site etc.

Another tip: when putting a computer together it's normal not everything goes as planned. I've put together quite a few comps already and i always had some problems varying from serious (rare) like a non working mainboard to problems that in hindsight seem trivial but may look daunting when u first assemble it, because u stand with all that expensive stuff in ur hands and wonder if it'll work. Always start wel prepared and wel rested with a big workspace and never use force when u don't know a solution. Just take a step back and think about it first.

The "problems" i encountered building my new comp were:

1: i forced open a frontdoor of the casing while it was actually locked. The door survived, but that was sheer luck

2: I mounted the cooler in the wrong direction, getting it very close to the board components, making me worry i might have damaged them, and also spilling some heath conducting paste on the board that got me kinda nervous also. in hindsight it was all very trivial.

3: i had what i thought were 2 pci-e x 16 slots so i put the vga card in the easiest slot but then i read in the manual the 2nd slot was actually 8x (although also refered to as 16x) so i had to move the vga card to the 1st pci slot wich led to some very tight manouvering. In the end it fell into place though.

4: the only available spot i had to mount a 2.5" hdd proved to small to connect the sata cable without bending it to much. After making a partition image i noticed datacorruption wich was very likely caused by an overly bend and pressured sata cable. So i had to figure out a solution that in the end was quite simple by just screwing some mainboard distanceholders into the hdd and then mount it.

In the end i can say it went quite smoothly although i made some stupid mistakes....

U wil definately encounter similar things so be prepared ;-)

PS3 connect to Computer thru Video Card?

i want to play PS3 thru my monitor.....

i have GeFroce 7950GT video card;

Running Vista Ulti.

I connected the Component Cords to the Computer....

Now wht???

how do i switch views??? instead of viewing Window

how to i view my PS3??? which program do i use???

Anyone?

Thanks|||you have to buy cables that connect from your PS3 to the monitor.|||It doesn't work that way.

You need a video-in port. Your graphics card has a video-out port. You probably need a video capture card or USB dongle, which should have the software you need to do this.

If your monitor has a DVI input, you could probably buy an adapter to convert your HDMI cable to DVI.

Anyone have an Nvidia GeForce8600 GT video card?

I bought one last year and it came with an interface for component video, at the time I didn't need the interface, now I do, does anyone know where to get one or at least what to call it to search for it?|||You probably need a monitor adaptor. Try newegg.com or tigerdirect.com or you could schlep down to the local best buy or radio shack.|||I believe what you are referring to is S video.

Where is a good place to buy laptop components(i.e. CPU and video card)?

I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop and I like it. It's small, works very well but it can't quite seem to handle the more intensive games. I wanted to buy a faster CPU and Video card for it but can't seem to find a place that sells them for laptops, only for desktops. Any thoughts or ideas on this, people of yahoo?|||The video cards on a laptop are embedded video devices, which can't be upgraded. I am sorry to say.

The CPU can however be exchanged on the laptop. It is difficult to change out, because of the architecture of the laptop motherboard in comparison to the way the laptop is built.

A lot of people do not even mess around with the CPU in the laptop. Instead, I would recommend a RAM upgrade. Look at the type of RAM you have and just upgrade to more RAM. Do not mix and match though.

RAM upgrades can increase the performance greatly, and it is usually a quick fix for a smoother operating system.|||Upgrades of this type for laptops are extremely rare. Basically you have to buy a new laptop.

You can add more RAM or a bigger / faster hard drive to a laptop. That's about it. Both will likely help your performance, but not really for 3D performance (games).|||The reason you can't find laptop video cards is because they don't exist. The video card on a laptop is part of the motherboard so it's impossible to upgrade your laptop's video card. You'll have to buy a whole new laptop.

The same idea holds true for laptop CPUs as well.|||You cannot upgrade the CPU and video card in 99.9% of the laptops in the world. That are not designed to be modular, they're designed to be compact.

Radeon 4600 and above are some of the better cards out at the moment.|||Definitely the GT240.Heavy games like crysis will run on high-very high.

Video card upgrade help?

Okay so i currently have a PCI Gefore FX 5500 series =

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/New-FX5500-Geforce…

I just bought a HD monitor, and im obviously not going to be able to use it to its full extent with this card, im a student so i have a low budget of around 60 quid for a card maby?

Basicly is it worth upgrading it or just leaving it be?

As i have PCI slots am i going to have trouble finding a good PCI card cheep?

Im clueless so any help is greatfuly appriciated =D x|||The immediate problems I can see is that you suggest your FX5500 is PCI not AGP or PCIx, trying to find a better PCI card that will give you better quality images on your monitor is not going to be simple, there are not many PCI cards available any more. The monitor will get the best out of the card you have but you are right, not the other way around and on the PCI bus any changes will not get you much improvement.

Does your computer have an AGP slot? To spend more money on an PCI card is not a good idea, you could possibly do better with changing the mainboard and get something with a built in VGA that will deliver better performance. But again you will run into difficulties finding a board to match both the CPU and Memory and it may not be cost effective. At least with an AGP Graphics card you will get enhanced performance over the PCI version, there are some very cheap AGP cards around that give good performance for your £60. All you need to look at is the connections available on the card and the monitor, DVI or HD is going to get you better clarity and performance and as long as your monitor has those connections then all will be well.

I would be inclined to wait a while, save a few more pennies and perhaps get a new PC that either has a better built in Video card or has an HDMI output to get the very best out of both the card and the monitor.

The danger is always getting a VGA card that exceeds the capabilities of the other components in your PC, higher performance from your PCI or AGP VGA card always has a knock on effect elsewhere that you don't always get with the more modern GPU derived PCi express cards. You may need more memory and a better PSU depending on the VGA card and the amount of memory it has and what is already available in your PC.|||okay, the "best" pci card is like 100 times slower then the slowest PCI express card, also cost around 1000 times more, so its better to leave it be and buy a whole new computer.

ATI Radeon 9500 Video Card too long for slot on motherboard - help!?

I bought my computer in the fall of 2006, directly from Dell. I purchased an ATI Radeon 9500 video card to add to it (all it had was an Intel Graphics Controller). My motherboard has two PCI-e slots, which match up with the ATI card, with one exception - the ATI video card is too long, so the PCI-e slot does not align properly with the video card. Is this a peculiarity to Dell computers, maybe they make them so they can only use Dell components? Or are there actually different lengths of video cards? What am I missing here?|||I won't patronize you by asking if you have the right card/slot, you sound tech savvy enough to know the difference.

Some Dell boxes are shallow, and this is why your card/s won't fit.

Contact Dell for a list of compatible cards, eBay list cards that will fit in Dell boxes like yours.

This is an example of a card spec-ed for a shallow Dell box: http://cgi.ebay.com/ATI-Radeon-X1300-Pro…|||are you trying to put the graphics card into a AGP slot or a PCI slot. AGP slots are brown in color and pushed back from the edge of the motherboard by about 2 inches, and are sometime accompanied by a second, smaller slot directly behind it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accelerated… a PCI slot is white and just off the edge of the motherboard. make sure you have the right type of card for the slot (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peripheral_…|||Read the ATI box and ensure that it is a PCI-e card.

Then, check Dell's site again to ensure that your Motherboard does have EITHER an AGP or a PCI-e slot.

If the card is PCI-e AND the slot is too, then they will fit.

My guess is your MoBo has an AGP slot. If so, you'll have to exchange the ATI for an AGP version.|||Check this Picture

you'll find the difference , youre probably trying to insert a pcie 16x graphic card into an agp

good luck|||Are you sure it isn't an AGP slot ?

What video card is this ?

All i know i know is that its a Dell video card.

And will dell components work with regular PC's?|||it could be anyone of these

768MB DDR3 nVidia® GeForce® 8800 GTX

512 MB DDR3 nVidia® GeForce® 8800 GT

256MB DDR3 nVidia® GeForce® 8600 GTS

256MB DDR4 ATI HD 2600 XT

128MB DDR4 ATI HD 2400 PRO

i found that list at this link

http://www.dell.com/us/en/gen/desktops/x…

yes that card will work in a regular pc and at that price it is worth grabbing.|||By the looks it looks like a ATi Radeon HD 4350 512MB DDR2 graphic card. It's the most basic card ever. But again even the most basic card is always better than onboard video card. This card can run on a stock 250 watt PSU.

So depending on your need, you might consider buying it if u don't have one at all.|||its not a very good one, dont buy it lets put it that way
